About Me

I enjoy simplifying complex ideas through writing. My clients and readers appreciate it.

I grew up in Los Angeles in the 90’s, naturally drawn to journaling my experiences and using a Brother typewriter to type up bedtime stories for my siblings. My family later moved to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, where I earned my B.A. in English and Secondary Education, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

A member of the English Honors Society and a contributor to the student newspaper, the UVI Voice, I received national recognition for my investigative reporting on the filming of BET’s fourth season of College Hill at the university.

After earning my degree, I taught 12th grade English, directing the yearbook team and teaching a journalism class alternate semesters. I later seized an opportunity to work in environmental education in various states at multiple YMCA campgrounds.

My web writing journey has taken many turns, starting with a personal blog established when dial-up was still new and MySpace didn’t yet exist. It continued with my first professional foray into freelance SEO content writing during college, and persisted as I wrote guest blog pieces for the YMCAs where I worked, the National Recreation and Parks Association website after speaking at their 2017 conference, and the nonprofit organizations I support.

Today, I reside in New Orleans, and am happy to have returned full-time to my writer roots. I write web content for B2B SaaS companies,  marketing entrepreneurs featured by Forbes, real estate investment and and bankruptcy law firms, and even for myself at shannonburtonwrites.com.
